Chives Plants
Chives Plants
Chives are a long-lived perennial that has hollow leaves and a mild onion taste. We have always found dried chives to be bland and only recommend harvesting them fresh. In mild climates these plants will continue growing throughout the winter and can be harvested all year long. Where winters are harsh, they can be grown in pots on a bright windowsill indoors. The lavender purple flowering heads are borne in the middle of spring and are an early nectar source for bees. These flowers are beautiful enough to tuck into the flower border. An easy to grow herb.
