Athyrium 'Regal Red' - {Japanese Painted Fern)
Athyrium 'Regal Red', is a handsome fern that is equally attractive as it is easy to grow. In the spring intensely colored fronds emerge a deep reddish-purple and slowly fade into a minty silver green with red stems. Then, in autumn the cooler weather entices a reddish blush to the fronds before winter dieback. This awesome plant slowly spreads by underground rhizomes and creates a lush mound in three to four years. An absolute must for the shade garden where it contrasts nicely with heuchera, and hosta.
