|
Most species perform well in average well-drained garden soil that is in a pH range of 5.5 - 7.5. While, the majority of ornamental grasses will grow considerably well in a light soil it is best to mix in some organic matter if a bolder display is wanted. After initial "watering in" dry soil between waterings to encourage a deeper rooting habit, which in turns gives you a more drought tolerant plant. Periodically pull dead or dying foliage. Deciduous grasses can be trimmed 2" - 3" from the ground in late fall or early spring to get rid of dead vegetation. Divisions can be successfully accomplished from March - November if proper steps are allocated to the given weather pattern.
