Genus of 370 species of perennials, annuals, and shrubs. Widely spread throughout temperate regions of the world. Found in woodlands, streamsides, meadows, deserts, and mountainous areas. The famous species Lobelia cardinalis or Cardinal Flower is found along stream banks and bottom lands from New Brunswick to Michigan and down to Texas. Our lobelia plants offerings are native to the United States, are hardy perennials, and amongst the best looking in this large genus.

- Plant in a moist soil that is well-drained and high in organic matter.
- An ideal pH range of 5.5 - 6.5 is recommended for optimum performance.
- Great for bog gardens and pond sides.
- Build tussocks in bog gardens in order to keep plants out of the water. In nature
cardinal flowers grow on stream banks, in old logs, wet bottoms, and on mossy stream bank shelves.
- Do not grow the Lobelia siphilitica or the Great Blue Lobelia in bog like conditions as it
is prone to root rot in overly moist soils.
