| A genus consisting of forty or more species of perennials, annuals, and biennials with scabiosia-like flowers. Naturally found in limestone grassland, scrub, and woodland settings, Knautia's are very diverse plants in the garden. Parent Species of Plants We Offer: Knautia macedonica is a clump-forming perennial that has three inch long basal leaves and stem leaves measuring from 3/4" to 6" long. From the basal clump of leaves rises a tall 24" - 32" flowering stalk with deep red long lived flowers, that stays in continuous bloom throughout the summer. From the C. Balkans and into Romania. Growing Tips Plant in a well-drained soil that has been enriched with organic matter, which is in a pH range of 6.5-8.0. Planting in full sun will decrease the chance of fungal problems, but plants will tolerate partial shade nicely. Beautiful in meadows, cottage gardens, and in mass plantings. |
