| The blanket flower is a mound-forming perennial that is found naturally in sunny habitats of North and South America. Gaillardia forms a basal rosette of toothed or lobed leaves that cascade with age. The daisy like flowers come in colors from yellow to brown and are borne high above the foliage on strong sturdy stems. Flowers resist many weather conditions, and are borne on the plants throughout the duration of the summer. Parent Species of Plants We Offer: Gaillardia aristata is an erect spreading perennial with grayish green leaves that are slightly lobed or pinnate and are up to eight inches long. The large flowers are up to four inches across and can be yellow, yellow with orange tint, or reddish orange. Growing up to 30 inches tall and spreading up to 24" across. This species is naturally located from W. British Columbia, Saskatchewan to W. Arizona, and New Mexico. Gaillardia grandiflora(G. aristata x G. pulchella) - Bushy perennial that has gray to mid-green leaves that are lance shaped , lobed, sometimes pinnatifid, and up to 12" long. Flowerheads are borne on plants from early summer to early autumn, and are up to 5.5" across. Grows up to 36" tall with a 18" spread. Growing Tips Plant in a well-drained soil that has been slightly enriched with organic matter. Planting in full sunlight discourages fungal diseases that can take place in humid areas. Dead-head blooms for maximum bloom potential. Very easy carefree perennial that withstands periods of drought. |
