Parent Species of the Plants We Offer: Echinops ritro sub. ruthenicus(Small Globe Thistle) - A compact perennial with stiff spiny leaves to 8" long, and casted in silver down. Bears spherical flower-heads in late summer(1-1.75" across) that start as metallic blue and turn bright blue when florets burst into bloom. Native to South Central/Southeast Europe to Central Asia. Hardiness Zones 3-9. Growing Tips Plant in a well-drained soil that has a pH of 6.0 - 7.5. Mixing in organic matter, such as compost, is beneficial in arid or poor draining soils. Spreading compost around plants in fall is enough fertilizer for the upcoming season. These plants perform best in a well-drained soil with a higher mineral composition than organic matter. |
