| Genus of about 20 species of annuals, biennials, and perennials. These plants have branched or unbranched stems and simple to pinnatified, occasionally pinnate leaves. The daisy-like flowers are borne on tall stems from early summer until autumn. These plants are native throughout moist meadows and light woodlands in North America. Parent Species of Plants We Offer: Rudbeckia fulgida(Black-eyed Susan) - Rhizomatous perennial native to the United States and found growing wild from New Jersey to Alabama and Georgia. This rudbeckia grows up to 36" tall with an 18" spread and has long lance-shaped hairy leaves to 5" and are mid-green in coloration. The flowerheads are borne in masses from late summer to mid-autumn and are up to 3" across. A tough drought tolerate species. Rudbeckia occidentalis - A three to four foot tall perennial plant with 6" - 8" long lance-shaped leaves of mid-green. Small petal less flowers are produced in early summer and are up to one half inch across. Native to Western U.S. GROWING TIPS Plant in a well-drained soil that has been enriched with organic matter, with a pH range of 6.0 -7.0. In poor soils rudbeckias will prosper without enrichment, but lack intensity and bloom season length. Also, a choice plant for large containers and naturalized plantings. |
