A tuberous biennial of the onion genus(allium), that is a native to Switzerland and is also found wild in Algeria. Brought
into cultivation by the Greeks.  This bulbless allium has hollow flat leaves and a long tuberous shank or elongated soft
bulb.  A great addition to soups, salads, and any dish where a mild onion flavor is acquired.

GROWING TIPS
Loving an organically rich soil that is in a pH range of 6.0 - 8.0.  Leeks require constantly moist soil to maintain good
substance.  The use of sifted compost to hill up the leeks and elongate shanks is also a great way to fertilize the growing
soft bulb.
In poor soils digging in compost is recommended for drainage and a constant supply of nutrients.  Leeks are rarely
touched by pests, just watch for spring slugs, and neck rot in poor draining soils.
