The sunflower is a loved plant for its shiny yellow blooms that travel with the suns rays. The Maximillian sunflower is a tall perennial with blue-green lanced shaped leaves that define the sunflower genus. The bushy plants give way to many 3" pure yellow blooms in late summer (earlier in southern climates) and stay in bloom until heavy frosts take over. If the seed heads are left standing they will act as a natural bird feeder that will keep native birds happy through the winter. A US Native.
